As soon as you commit a thought to media, be it electronic or hard copy, it is under threat of being stolen, changed or destroyed.  Data that you hold within your business is no different.

Let’s take a look at the manual office:

  • Do you have information that you lock in filing cabinets?
  • Do you put commercially sensitive papers in your drawer?
  • Do you lock the doors on key offices?
  • Do you lock your premises overnight?
  • Do you have an alarm and maybe CCTV?

And electronically:

  • Do you save your data in a secure area using a password protected account?
  • Do you walk away from your PC without locking it or logging out?
  • Do you have a password protected account?
  • Is your password “password” or the name of your dog or your favorite football team?
  • Are the computers that hold your data securely locked away?

Around 80% of the threats to your business come from your own staff.  Some of these are malicious and deliberate but some are due to the lack of procedures or carelessness.

Threats generally fall into the following categories:

  • Human or Social
  • Physical or Hardware
  • Programming or Software

And some examples are Spyware, Trojans, Malware, Worms, and Virus threats.

G3 Solutions address these issues by correctly configuring a centralised server solution with appropriate defensive software.  For the majority of small to medium size business we would recommend the implementation of Microsoft Small Business Server which has inbuilt features to counteract most threats.  Most importantly if facilitates centralised storage and security of your company shared data.

With centralised storage you are able to control who has access to all of your company information so you are able to confidently store your commercially sensitive data away from prying eyes while at the same time allowing those with the need to read or change it to do so as necessary.
